Quantitative Ultrasound
Research Study
Purpose:
To determine positive and negative factors that influence bone characteristics in the 16 to 18 year old female.
Hypothesis:
1. Osteoporosis is not a disease of old people. It should be a young person's concern to develop appropriate bone matrix and calcium reserves today and for the future.
2. A significant difference will be noted between groups determined by positive lifestyle behaviors and actions versus less than positive behaviors and actions.
3. A significant difference will be noted between groups with family and genetic history versus non-family genetic history.
4. A significant difference will be noted between groups of non-exercisers versus those engaged in athletic activities.
